As mentioned it depends on your usage and on what rewards are best for you. I most use the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card. It has higher rewards than the regular Blue Cash card (which I had before), but does charge an annual fee. However, for us, even considering the fee, we do better with the Preferred card.

That said, when I went to buy a notebook computer online recently, I used the Discover card that I rarely use because it was giving 5% cash back (up to $75) for online purchases during the specified time period. That was better than what I would get using Amex so I bought the computer with it. I am also using $45 of the $75 to get a Chili's $50 gift card which is a place we regularly dine at.
