I too once hunted birds but have not for 40 years. (I never really had the heart to point at many..)

Yes, to penetrate the thorasic wall and embed in the heart with #8 shot you would have to be at close range. For an experienced hunter? (Killer?) Unthinkable. The shootee had to be right in front of him.

Laugh? I can be really cynical and think they are the kind. Maybe so but it is hard for me to even think that. But, on the other hand?
