As you all probably know, has been the main source executive boards have used to justify choosing one product over another. I noticed recently that sunw hardware has only 1 win out of 10 NOW at top 10 tpc-c performers. I remember when they used to own this and msft was nowhere to be found. However, now, msft based solutions own 6 of these top 10 performers. If sunw loses their enterprise focused performance to cpq and ibm, where will they be in a year when purchases have been made based upon these numbers? Obviously, lost of focus by competitors is always a good news for the enterprise market penetrator (cpq and msft).

Now have a closer look. All Windows based solutions in this list are clusters. The top happens to be 24 systems in a cluster. Imagine the hardware littering the floor. Imagine all the administrators required to keep this running.

Now look at the Sun solution. A single 64CPU system.

You must be off you rocker if you think that all a customer looks at is TPC results.

Besides all this, TPC is in no way a good indicator or real life systems, and therefore not a good indicator of how a system will run in its final deployment. IT managers the world around understand this, and only reflect on TPC results for a fleeting moment. Many other factors need to be considered before making a purchase.
