At 6'5", competitive, and needing no-impact activities, might want to try rowing. Master's rowing can take you all over the US (and Europe, if you want). And at 54, you will find yourself on the youngish side relative to many of the competitors. Rowing can be either individual, with a partner, or with a team (4's and 8's). Exceptionally good exercise. Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I had a couple of hurricane kayaks that DW and used to paddle oall over North Texas before we retired and sold everything. Loved it.

I love trying knew sports. Never have I tried rowing.
