A couple of days ago I booked our flights to Hawaii. (We've been spending around 6 months/year there, in chunks, ever since I "retired" in 2014.) We fly mostly on Delta, because Detroit is a Delta hub and I've racked up a gazillion miles on them (and their ancestors) over 40 years.

Anyhow, I noticed two things that may be of general interest:

1. Delta has updated their (previously sub-par) website. It's a lot more informative and user-friendly.

2. Delta's round-trip tix used to cost much less than 2 one-ways to/from a city, but not now. (I don't know how long it's been like this, because I haven't tried to book one-way in quite some time.) So I ended up buying one-way tix to Hawaii, leaving us the option to book the return when we have a better idea of when we want to leave and whether we want to include a stopover to visit DD and family in Oregon.
