Hi all,

My employer, a nonprofit, offers a 457 plan that's a variable annuity. I've read quite a lot not-so-good things about variable annuity and am hesistating whether to enroll or not. I contribute the annual maximum to my Roth IRA every year. What investment options do I have should I decide not to participate in the 457 plan? I've also been putting money that I would normally invest in a retirement plan in the Vanguard Short-term taxable bond fund, and those ordinary dividends have made my taxes quite hefty for the past couple years. Any advice? Thanks!!
