I have all of my bank cards set to notify me by email if the card is used, even if only for $1.
That can come in handy for quickly finding out about unauthorized use. I recommend it.

This morning, I got a notification that my ATM/debit card had 4 charges to Amazon and Amazon Prime.
A quick call to the bank, and they will cancel the card and send out a new one.

It's not the first time I've had unauthorized charges and I'm sure it won't be the last.
This card is one that I pretty much only use for deposits and withdrawals at ATMs. I haven't used it in a couple of months. I've never used it online for anything. I suppose it could have been skimmed at an ATM, but if so, they sat on it for a while before using the card number.
