After trying to clear a drain in the bathroom, we got the telltale gurgle when flushing the toilet that indicates a vent stack is obstructed. Now happens in both upstairs and downstairs bath, which share a vent, though kitchen and laundry on other vents have no drainage issues, so assuming it's the vent and not the sewer. Came across this article: which suggests doing the following from the roof: Remove any items you can reach. For those items you can’t remove from above, run the plumber’s snake down the vent pipe.

Feed the end of a garden hose down the vent pipe and have someone on the ground turn on the water. Listen carefully for water backing up and a sudden whoosh when the weight of the water forces the clog into and down the drain.

We went up on the roof and the bathroom vent stack quickly goes to a 90 degree angle, so can't really see down it. Looking at buying a snake, but in all that I've read the comments for they state it won't make it around a 90 degree bend. Is there a specific type of snake to buy to get around this bend?

Also a bit concerned about the pouring water down the vent from the roof step. Pouring water into your house seems counter intuitive.

Any ideas on how to proceed????? Not wanting to compound the problem.
