Hello, I just found this board, after searching for help with my budding podcasting. I'm having equipment problems for the most part.

I'm using Audacity, and my first attempts to record were with a GE omnidirectional microphone I bought at Target for ten bucks. The sound was quiet and hollow--I guess muddy is the term.

My second attempt was with a Cyber Acoustics headset that provided better sound, but it had a lot of background hiss. I used Audacity to filter out the background noise, which then made my speaking voice, well, muddy.

So I'm willing to spend some money on a decent headset, but not too much--say less than $50. Hard to know ahead of time how well something will record, isn't it. And of course, the problem could be with my sound card--the recording end of the signal. Dunno.
