Bill the first thing I suggest you do is "Export" your book marks from your Mac to your Mac's Desktop -- just to keep that safe. Next you might try and create new folder names "News2" on your Mac and copy the missing links into it. Assuming the show up you are fine after renamed and deleting stuff.

What I think is happening is for some reason your Safari is not syncing through iCloud. You might also check to see if iCloud is turned on everywhere to the same Apple ID. Just turning iCloud off and back on usually resets connections.
