I think Lee's argument (that junk bonds are a poor candidate for indexing) is too clever by half. The illiquidity of much of the underlying (and, often, its inaccessibility in retail quantities) is exactly why indexing can be an appropriate tactic for those who want exposure, but don't have the capital/time to build their own portfolio.
