Hello fellow Fools,

We have been buying blue LEDs that emit in the 400 nanometer wavelength range from CREE, Nichia, and most recently from a company called Emcore.

I didn't see much here about Emcore, so I thought I'd share what I know.

They are based in New Jersey, but appartently have a deal worked out with another, better known company (neither is CREE and the other isn't Nichia) to buy wafer from a fab plant in Florida.

Trouble is, the plant in Florida is having tool problems, so no blue LED die is available from them. The stuff is mighty hard to come by in quantities less than a wafer.

We buy blue LED die as a power source for a tiny, implantable real-time blood glucose monitor we are prototyping. We need these LEDs, but it's tough to get 'em. Can't wait until they're more broadly available.
