Cross posting from the BMW premium board---thought this might be interesting to those here. BMW has been very serious about sustainability ...and this new luxury SUV is a culmination of efforts so far...They have been selling hybrids and their SUV and a couple sedan models with battery driven motors but...

BMW has had an ambitious goal to own 25% market share of EV's by 2025 (that's 2MM Battery Electric vehicles delivered between now and 2025). For perspective BMW sells about 2.2MM vehicles per year.

By 2023 BMW will have 90% of their models able to be ordered with electric drives.

Here is the first (so-called SAV Sports Activity Vehicle) designed specifically for electric drive from the ground up. The iX M60 was announced last week at CES in Vegas and goes on sale in June 2022.

<<The latest generation iDrive display and control system expands the interaction between driver and vehicle allowing natural dialogue....The Remote Software Upgrades offer the possibility to install new and improved vehicle functions over-the-air. Navigation with the cloud-based BMW Maps system and Augmented Reality Video on the Control Display ensures fast and precise route planning as well as perfect traffic guidance. The BMW iX is also a pioneer in data transmission using the 5G mobile phone standard and in integrating the personal mobile phone account into the vehicle with the help of the Personal eSIM.>>

They deliver 34% of vehicles they sell in mainland China where they claim a 17% luxury market share. ( about 77% of those --some 650,000 deliveries in 2021 ---come from their 75% owned JV with Brilliance factories in China). Also, last I looked, about 33% of the BMW X models made in Spartanburg, SC end up in China (~135,000).
