Bob Hassmiller died yesterday. Although he remained paralyzed from the neck down from a cycling accident a little more than a week ago and was being aggressively treated for infections, kidney failure, and other complications, he was conscious and alert when he and his loving wife, Sue, decided that enough was enough. He was 70 years old.

Bob was my friend on Motley Fool for years. We shared our love of cycling, Hawaii, service, and family. He helped me plan and live my retirement--not only the financial part but all the rest, too: how to stay active and serving, how to enjoy life to the fullest. Bob was a role model for me. I am very grateful, and very sad.
