Bruce you are correct in your analysis of what I posted. My original post was not clear about what my wife was told - she was told that her retirement benefit would be over $500 per month below the amount the SS calculator gave for her earnings record because that amount would exceed the family maximum.

As I dug into this, I came to suspect the SS person was applying a Per Household (or family) limit to an individual who had their own individual earnings record. When my wife got another person in the local office, they looked at my wife's earnings record, and came up with a benefit amount that matched our expectations and the SS website calculator.

We will both be at the 134% of PIA level when Linda's payment begin in Q4 of 2022 - assuming I am still alive and collecting.
