BTW, I was at WalMart last week and the guy ahead of me was using a chipped card so I got to see it at work.

I went on a road trip last April, and FIA (issuer of my Fidelity Amex) insisted on sending me a chip card when I called in to report I would be traveling. On that trip, I found that Walmart would only take it as inserted. This makes sense, as Sam's Club has had the terminals for inserting chip cards at least since late last year.

OTOH, Wegman's has had the new terminals for months, but they weren't functioning for inserting the chip cards as of Friday October 2. I expect they should be operational in the not too distant future, now that there's an economic incentive for Wegman's to upgrade their system.

Of course, the gas pumps are all still swipe the card terminals, even at Sam's Club.
