But when I got to Equifax, none of the choices were correct. For example, it listed five banks, and asked from which I had a car loan. The answer was none of the above.

In fact, the answer was none of the above for ALL the questions.


They pull the questions from your credit file, possibly from several years ago. They do include 'none of the above' as a valid answer. That said, if banks have merged, or credit card portfolios have been sold, you may not know the correct name of the lender. And if you don't currently have a car loan, but had one, say, 7 years ago, was that one of the 5 lenders? If so, then your answer probably should not have been 'none of the above'.

At the end, they said they couldn't verify my identity, and I had to mail in a request form, and get a paper copy of my report.

Has anyone heard of this before?


Yes, I have heard of having to send in information in order to verify your identity.
