But YOU have to worry. Belief in 'just one' must include 'denial' of all the others

A common charge against early Christians in Roman courts was the charge of “atheism” for that exact reason.

Huh. So they were punished by those in power for not being sufficiently "tolerant" and not "valuing diversity."

"The possibilities are INFINITE, which is to be expected."

Probably. New god thingies are invented all the time. The Romans had a slew of them .....
The 12 Roman Gods were: Jupiter, Juno, Mars, Mercury, Neptune, Venus, Apollo, Diana, Minerva, Ceres, Vulcan, and Vesta.

The Greeks had a slew of them - The standard 12 Olympian gods are:

Zeus Hera
Athena Apollo
Poseidon Ares
Artemis Demeter
Aphrodite Dionysos
Hermes Hephaistos

The Greeks did not always agree on the 12 and some lists include Hestia, Hercules or Leto, with Dionysos often the one replaced.

- ---

Here's a list of the many known god=thingies. You might peruse it in case your stranded on a boat and need to call on Neptune.....or maybe some other god who thinks you're a poor wretch and lets the rest of the folks on the ship die - but magically saves you - and , who if a god-thingie - would have already answered your prayer and keep the ship from sinking in the first place...oh well, not so 'amazing stories'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_deities_by_classificat...

You just happen to be a creature of being born in a country with parents of one flavor of religion. 10,000 years ago in the same location, you'd probably be calling on the 'Great White Father' or doing fertility dances in some kiva.....in the southwest US. Maybe building mounds in Cahokia 1000 years ago. If you were born in India, you'd likely have another flavor, and in Saudi Arabia another. Nothing magical here. Oh, maybe Jamaica....and voodoo....who knows..(well, the Shadow knows)... Just lots of superstitions like black cats, ladders, the number 13 (triskaidekaphobia), etc. Broken mirrors.... cracks in sidewalks.....

Of course, you're entitled to your fantasies - usually at some financial contribution to the 'priest class' .. The 'church' is the second largest industry in the world - after now - drug producers and dealers....

Which one of the 1,000 plus god thingies is that? The one that a billion and half folks in India worship?

how about the folks in Bhutan?

Shall we go to Saudi Arabia and ask if your godthingie with offspring and confused identity of Big Daddy, Junior and the Spook? well, there you've got a problem. A good part of the world doesn't believe in Junior.....and how many believe in the Spook?

oh well...

The best treatment of this topic was the Star Trek episode where Apollo held them captive on his planetoid...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Mourns_for_Adonais%3F

The ending line by Captain Kirk was we have no need for gods....

Now here's a question for you - the 'majority' of folks over time didn't worship your godthingie.

Suppose when you die, IF there are god-thingies - they all get together and decide who is worthy. Those who have been neglected - Like Zeus and Apollo - give you a thumbs down - along with 999 of the others. They've been offended - you spent a lot of time groveling, but none to them. Only one tries to support you. But you failed to even please a few of them. So it is down to heck for entirety.

Now, me? Not groveling to just one....not pleading with just one...not 'offending' anyone by ignoring them while selecting 'one' out of 1000? no problem. No offense....off to the promised land.....which of course is pure fantasy.

But YOU have to worry. Belief in 'just one' must include 'denial' of all the others which you know have existed, have had ten billion worshippers.....and who is correct? You're outnumbered. You could be doomed.

But it's 'your choice' of fantasy.

Forgiveness is something which is a rare commodity.
But there is such a thing in the universe.

And forgiveness is one thing we all need.
