but you might have to end up with a professional trustee. They're not quite as expensive as insurance companies and their fees, but they're not cheap, either.

Could you do a little detail on this, or perhaps provide a link where I can find out more. My wife and I are in this situation; no kids, no one to "trust" with a trust, and we watched our fathers (both of them) devolve to the point where they were n longer able to care for themselves. Meanwhile we have significant assets and a couple of relatives we'd like to take care of in our will, but would need to protect them from themselves.
