Canuck, i guess i really want to ask a long list of questions. but i think i know the answers, and i and you probably don't have time, so i am going to be presumptuous and give you my best guess. first, i know nothing of that guy, but what i read from catwoman was enough. no question fresh and live is good, but there is NO cure for type 1 diabetes plus the guy really sounds quacky - buy fresh foods but don't spend any money on that guy.

i hate to say this, but it sounds like you might actually do something about it so i will, but your sister is slowly dying of the complications of uncontrolled diabetes. most cases of "brittle" diabetes are due to poor control - a self-inflicted malady. a small proportion are due to slow release of food from the stomach to the upper small intestine (where most of the nutrients are absorbed), these cases can be treated pharmacologically, but they require the close attention of a physician.

i fear your sister has got by with her illness, but does not understand what is required to be generally normoglycemic. she is going to have to get a serious education, which is hard for someone who thinks they have been handling it for 25 years.

she needs to be under a docs close care and get the services of a diabetic educator. i am out on a limb here, i didn't ask all those questions, but whoever's care she is under is negligent. find a clinic that specializes. i assume you are under OHIP or something similar, so this must be possible. i came across the link below which is interesting reading for someone who doesn't have diabetes, not at all technical, but gives you a feel for the range of lifestyles that are out there.

ACT NOW!!! she can live a long time if she gets things under control.
