Looks like parts of America have suddenly realised the American car industry employs people in their state - like the civic minded local car dealer. Many newspapers and TV channels are now (too late) rallying saying GM or Chrysler should spare their dealership. In many parts of small town America, the car dealership is the largest tax payer too. Oooo. Thats going to leave a mark.

You'll get no sympathy from the likes of me in Ohio, working in Michigan. We told you so. State franchise laws don't protect you in bankruptcy - infact your likely worse off than the UAW members you were so keen to kick out a job.

GM wants to close 2600 dealers - without going bankrupt. But hey - if you don't like it, GM gets to go bankrupt and you can take your chances there. How many people does the average dealer employ ? 100* ? Thats 260,000 jobs right there.

My view ? It's going to happen whether you like it or not. Welcome to the Economic Eastern Front.
