Hi all,

Glad to see this board get new life!

Recently FIREd myself (~2 yrs ago) and trying to prepare for when my mate retires and we hit the "no earned income" stage.

Very scary in many ways and exciting in many more.

I have relied very heavily on gdett2 here and over at RYR ( TMF Rule Your Retirement). Thanks a million g.

He and his DW retired into the Great Recession and survived and thrived. A big part of their success depended on having a several year cash cushion which they continue to maintain. Reading all of his posts will give you a great practical education in managing retirement.

I found this brief article and graph helpful in showing succinctly the issue of retiring into a downturn and how to survive it in conjunction with gdett2's advice.

Don't fear; plan! Spot
