I'm looking at our 2011 charitable donations and I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but want to make sure because I'll have to file Form 8283 if I'm wrong.

One charitable expense was airfare to go volunteer with an IRS-approved nonprofit. I originally bought a plane ticket early in 2011 for a personal trip, which I had to cancel. I got a voucher for the price of the ticket (minus a service charge). Late in 2011 I used the voucher to get the ticket for the charitable trip. To me that sounds like a cash contribution, but was I really donating an airline ticket? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but we're talking taxes here so I want to make sure.
