Just shopped for a good CD rate and wanted to keep it local. Just bought four CD's from my local credit union (PATELCO). Five year CD @ 6%, not callable and, you can take them out ahead with only a penalty of 90 days of lost interest....I was happy with that rather than have $$'s sitting in Wells Fargo MM at 3.2% and probably going down...Had to get it done, so to speak, by next Thursday.....cause Dr. Green Shade is gonna lower, as well all know, THE RATE!.....Bob

My credit union is mostly very good, but CDs are the exception. It has really good loan rates (6.5% car loans and a 9.75% fixed-rate gold Visa for example), top-notch no-fee checking (with 2% interest and free checks with a $300 minimum) and a pretty competitive passbook savings rate (4.25% but going down month after month), but their CDs are horrible. They don't even *offer* anything above two years, and they are also currently at 4.25%.

Definitely better to be a borrower than a lender there.
