I reread your touching piece several times. First because it was so touching, then because of the disconnect I experienced upon learning you are a marine machinist.

It may seem snobish and show my insular lack of exposure, but I always assumed from your depth and breadth of knowledge, your literary allusions, and your clarity of writing that you were an academic. I felt small after reading your fine piece.

I tried writing something on the death of my dog and later on the the death of my dad. I was unable to write anything so moving, and settled for something much more austere.

Charlie, I admire you.
