Sorry all, had some more trouble with Yahoo, which killed last week's chart update and has delayed this week's.

I found a Python script on Github that downloads historical data with the new Yahoo authentication structure, and after modifying it (with a couple of bug fix cycles along the way), the charts are on their way. It will probably be another hour or two for all the updates to appear at http://invest.kleinnet.com/bmw1. One glitch may show up: indexes won't have their names shown; that will be fixed next week.

Current download size: monthly data from 1960 to present for 2469 companies and indices. That's 1.7 million data points, although most of them are empty since most companies don't have data that far back.

You're welcome, SubGuy and everyone else who uses the charts. I use them myself, not very often, but enough that I'd really miss them.

The Yahoo makeover is not just cosmetic, they have changed the underlying technology. The old API for downloading data is mostly gone which has broken a lot of scripts. Unfortunately the price data is spotty. Check out the price data for HCSG from October 16 though November 2, all zeros!

This really screws up the CAGR calculations.

Hi Denny, it looks like they've already fixed it? At least when I clicked on it just now it looks OK.

Let me know if you find anything wrong with the monthly BMW chart data and maybe it's possible to ignore or compensate for it if needed.

Denny, wow, mine works. Here's my screenshot directly from the link you provided: https://www.dropbox.com/s/j76ncssp02n5uhe/HCSG.png?dl=0

Maybe it depends on where the request is coming from?

Hi Denny,

When I use your link, I get a full year's worth of data in the table as well as a formatted price quote for today at the top of the page. Strange.

P.S. I don't have a clue how to post a picture file here, so can't show you what I see.

Totally weird! In a 20 year daily HCSG download only those days show NULL. Most downloads are OK and a few have these nulls. No clue as to why. I'm not the only one

another

You appear to be correct that each of these ticker symbols are missing years worth of historical data. I tried to download 5 years of data for each symbol and none of them would download any data earlier than late 2014. Of the data that did download many including SHY, VDC and VNQI have hundreds of dates with zeroes/null price data. I have included the inception dates below for each ETF/Mutual Fund so data should be available for download back to near those dates. It seems like YF has some pretty serious problems with preventing their historical data from being corrupted especially that you stated above that these tickers used to work.

I downloaded SHY and VDC, NO problem!

Weird!

Take a screen shot and uploaded it somewhere. Mike used dropbox. I use my own website.

The problem seems to be random.

I normally use Safari and decided to test Firefox without logging in. I got the exact same results. If Yahoo has distributed servers, maybe some of them carry faulty data...
