I was listening to a bit of local talk programming on my NPR station and one of the participants caught my ear when he mentioned his mother fixing "Daufuskie Fish", and always making an announcement about it when she did. Of course I knew I had to find out about it and pass it along.

The topic under discussion is a four-part documentary on Netflix: High on the Hog: How Aftican American Cusine Transformed America. The second episode is focused on the Carolinas, rice, and Gulah food.

That radio program isn't even over yet, so I haven't had time to explore anything, but I had to give you a heads up without delay.

Have fun!

Yes, the documentary series is great and I have watched the episode discussed on the radio. It features a woman named Sallie Ann Robinson, who is well known on the island, a published author of history and cookbooks, as well as a popular tour guide for those looking to learn more about the Gullah history and culture on the island.

Who would also encourage Fools interested in the island's history to check out The Water Is Wide by Pat Conroy...
