China has historically demonstrated the law of unintended consequences with its centrally planned economic policy, but this article brings to light at least one official that is looking out for them.

While the article is focused on China, it has massive implications for the rest of the world, especially places like Brazil, Argentina, Australia, and the US that have large swaths of fertile land and (currently) ample water.

And that little parenthetical also has huge implications going forward. For a little more on that, here's an interesting tidbit from The Economist.
