I'm past retirement age and have had health insurance coverage through my spouse's employer, so no Medicare B.

Unexpectedly my wife's employer insurance coverage has been moved to COBRA (due to a medical leave) which, as I understand, triggers an 8-month special enrollment window for me.

However, we fully expect that her regular employer health insurance coverage will be resumed within 2 months when she returns from medical leave.

Q1: Presuming her employer insurance is reactivated in that timeframe, is there a need for me to begin Medicare B (etc) enrollment now (apart from familiarizing myself with the program choices).

If not...

Q2: If my spouse retires in 5 years, would my special enrollment period at that time be 8 months as it is now (let's assume no new legislative issues)?

Thank you.
