Yesterday's Stars & Stripes, page 17, has a photo of a woman holding her poodle. Caption:

Bad fur day
JoyDouglas holds her pink poodle, Cici, while giving an interview at the Boulder County Justice Center prior [to] her court appearance in Boulder, Colo. Douglas, facing a $1,000 fine for dyeing her poodle pink, has hired a lawyer to fight the charge in court.

Good grief. Government run amok.

You can dye your own hair pink, but you get slapped with a $1,000 fine if you dye your dog's hair pink? What kind of nuttiness is that?

Poodle in photo is obviously well cared for. Dog sees in B&W, so doesn't even know he's pink. How in the world does something like this even pass the "So What?" test, let alone become an infraction worthy of a $1K fine? And think of the cost of enforcement -- tax money just plain pissed away. You'd think these guys could find something better to do, like maybe killing Taliban, instead of harassing dog owners.

Next thing you know, the nuts behind this kind of government over-reaching will be fining us for branding cattle and neutering horses.

As always,

Tom
