My son is a Senior, and I know we could consolidate his 4 years of student loans (actually 3-1/2). I know that if we do this by Sep 30,
he gets a break on the rate,a nd locks in the current very low rate for the term of the loan.

What i want to know is- is this a good idea?
If he consolidates now, will he have to start paying off the loan immediately, vice 6 mos after graduation (which would be Fall '02).

The college aid dept says NOT to do it.
But I wonder what some Fools are doing.

Any advice ?
TIA
