When your manuscript is finished, make a copy and mail it to yourself registered mail. Do not open the envelope. If you ever have a copyright dispute, you have your finished manuscript in a sealed and dated envelope and proof of authenticity.

I got this tip eons ago from a playwright friend of mine who has seen several of his productions off off off Broadway.
