I've been doing some research on corporate bonds, and I was wondering if the board could offer some guidance. Some sites say corporate bond funds are good, others don't. Some say use a stockbroker, others say it's unnecessary. Most sites act as if corporate bonds are a secret world that the average investor usually avoids. I can't even find a clear description of where to get started.

Do I have to contact a bond trader? Where do I find one? I have an e-trade account; can I purchase bonds through that site? Would I be able to purchase corporate bonds through my bank?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
