Correct me if I'm wrong, but that caveat about the earlier retirement with a 401k isn't really a caveat at all. Can't you, with a good accountant, retire before age 59 1/2 and start taking penalty free distributions from your IRA as long as you use one of the IRS-approved methods for calculating how much you should withdraw, and do so for life?
