I'm sure most Costco Amex holders are aware of the transition to Citi - happening at the end of this week. Thought I'd share my recent conversation with Amex. Since the account is transferring to a Citibank visa card, I asked if it would be possible to open a new Amex card and keep my existing number on that account. Sadly, no, which means I'll be updating some auto-bills that go directly to the card.

What is interesting is what they're offering to entice customers to keep an Amex card. The current offer is for an Amex Blue rewards card, with 1/2/3% back on various spending categories. Typical stuff. But...spend $1k in the first 3 months, and they'll give you $250 back in a statement credit. So they're basically offering you $250 to open a new Amex account. Not bad...
