I keep my early retirement dream alive by utilizing a countdown method posted by someone (I forget who) over on the Retire Early board. He mentioned he'd started counting down with 100 months, then shifted to 100 weeks, and 100 days when appropriate. When I added up my time left, I realized I only had 31 months (now less than 30) and that gave me a big boost. 30 months sounds like a whole lot less to me than over 3 years (I teach school, so a year of employment for me is under 10 months).
