I cannot believe how the media has made COVID a huge deal and the dems are falling in line, shutting down the economy to hurt Trump. I work in the biggest healthcare corporation in Colorado. While our democratic idiot governor is screaming about social distancing and mask wearing, I see NO Covid patients dying. NO Covid patients in ICU or on ventilators. The positive numbers are up!! So is the testing. SO WHAT!! People are NOT dying. This country has cut it's nose to spite it's face to get rid of Trump. It is beyond disgusting. I can promise that if geriatric Biden gets elected, suddenly Covid won't be a big deal, just like H1N1 wasn't when obama was in office. The liberal media and the liberal teachers are manipulating everyone. Maybe it's time we break away from the US and form our own Conservative country!!!!!!!!

We are out of land. It would have to be another planet.

HOWEVER to the rest of your post - Finally just 2 weeks ago I now know someone of someone who has died and was infected with COVID. I do not know the particulars as to symptoms, what other conditions they had etc.. but COVID did help their death from what I have learned. Do not dismiss this entirely, keep a level head about this. People have died from it.

Mostly agree with your post but with a grain of salt on the COVID.

80,000 cases and 2000 deaths. You must not be looking hard.

Can't have that!

Let's put the COVID-19 death in perspective. Here's some data for the period Feb 23 thru Oct 4 from Clark County, WA, where I live (population: 496,587):

Total Deaths All causes: 2,365
Total Deaths COVID-19: 62
#9 cause of death
Top 10 causes of total deaths: 1,921
COVID-19 % of top 10 causes of death: 3.3%
# of Deaths due to Accidents: 135
# of Suicide deaths: 51
# Opioid deaths, unintentional: 22
COVID-19 is #36 cause of death for those under age 60

COVID-19 Cases/Hospitalizations/Deaths by age group Feb 23 - Oct 4, 2020:

0-19: 501/0/0
20-39: 1,294/44/2
40-59: 1,003/76/5
60-79: 505/117/22
80+: 143/56/38

Average age of death from COVID-19 virus: 78 yrs
Average life expectancy: 78.6 yrs

Date of State mandate to wear mask and social distance: June 26
Slope of regression line of "New Cases" June 21-Oct 4: Flat to slightly negative
Slope of regression line of COVID-19 deaths June 21 - Oct 4: Sharp decline to avg 1 to 2/week X 5 weeks
No deaths under age 60 since August 2

These data suggest, but certainly do not prove, masking and social distancing are minimal to not effective in significantly reducing COVID-19 New Cases and deaths. The COVID-19 virus has no negative health effects on children and the most negative health effects are on those near the end of life.

So, let's do so thinking..........

Were preventable deaths to be managed as COVID-19 is being managed, these would be the Governor's mandates:

1. All automobiles must be mechanically modified to not allow them to exceed 25 MPH
2. All automobiles must be retrofitted with mandatory 5-point seat belts
3. All opioids, including Buprenorphine, Butorphanol, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, Meperidine, Methdadone, Morphine, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, and Tramadol are banned except for in-hospital administration
4. All ladders exceeding 2 feet are banned
5. All swimming pools cannot exceed 1 foot in depth
6. Swimming is forbidden in any natural body of water
7. No person may be allowed to exist outside of prison except that they are in the company of at least one adult

We must keep a level head about the deaths due to these causes, specifically preventable causes in Clark Co. By following these restrictions, the goal is to reduce preventable deaths from the current rate of 409 per year (2020 projection) to 0.

As to chronic disease deaths, the Governor's office is currently in the process of development of mandates that will forbid the sale or consumption of any food containing trans fats, cholesterol or sugar/sodium above 1mg/liter, mandatory annual cardiovascular testing, mandatory exercise programs administered by age, mandatory monthly blood pressure checks, mandatory monthly cancer screenings for lung/breast/uterus/liver/skin/prostate/colon cancer. Violations will receive a $10,000 fine and stern warning. Continued violations will result in the guilty party(ies) being incarcerated in re-education camps until the guilty are properly educated. And there will be no functioning schools, from K-College, allowed to convene until these goals have been achieved.

And henceforth, the state governor shall no longer be referred to as 'governor'. Instead, all residents of the state and any outside visitors must refer to him/her as 'The Great Leader'. Open weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, howling, sobbing, rending of clothing and all gestures of grieving and subservience must be made whenever the Great One is ill or merely having a bad day.

Deaths must be managed so no one dies of anything! Repeated failures of a citizen to follow these rules following re-education will result in the death penalty.

So I think that covers it......

8,217 hospitalizations, and
2,176 deaths, to-date.

How do data from increased testing affect the number of hospitalizations and deaths?

2,042 deaths due to COVID-19, the same as the day prior.

IOW, no new deaths.

What the media reports are almost exclusively 'new cases'. This has nothing to do with anything unless you can show a subsequent rise in hospitalizations due to....not in conjunction with....the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This must be laboratory confirmed. Otherwise, you're simply counting all admissions as COVID-19 admissions if the virus is found anywhere on the person. Only if the trends in cases and COVID-19 hospital admissions and autopsy confirmed SARS-CoV-2 deaths is shown to be a positive correlation does the media-beloved 'new cases' have any meaning. But the former are almost never reported, suggesting the media either doesn't know what they are doing or they do know what their doing but want to report anything negative they can for political reasons and don't want to be bothered by the real science.

But something tells me if there were a concomitant increase in COVID-19-confirmed hospitalizations and deaths, they'd be reporting it. So until I hear and am shown otherwise, I'd assume these 'new cases' are finding asymptomatic carriers who didn't know they have the virus on board and had they not been tested, would never have known they did.

You must work in accounts payable.

From yesterday's Denver Post:

"Capacity in Denver hospitals’ intensive-care units is “diminishing,” said Bob McDonald, executive director of the city’s Department of Public Health and Environment. On Monday, 98 people were hospitalized, which is more than twice the number who were hospitalized in Denver at the start of the month, and 77% of intensive-care beds were occupied."
