Having leased the NY Central line on the East bank of the Hudson River to Amtrak, CSX is now upgrading the line on the West Bank of the Hudson for heavy freight. The east line runs on flat ground near the riverbank past the great mansions of the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, and Hyde Park of the Roosevelts (where FDR is buried). The West bank line is mountainous. I'm surprised it is still in service.

But now CSX will build 18 miles of track to connect it. Doing so for NJ freight avoids crossing the Hudson River twice, but the area is congested with numerous commuter rail lines. They also plan to upgrade the Trenton/Philadelphia line (which shares traffic with Philadelphia's SEPTA 20 hrs per day) to carry double stacked containers.
