Culcha, I meant to say widows benefits instead of spousal benefits. From what I read on the SocialSecurity.gov site and Kotlikoffs Social Secutity book, widows "inherit" the delayed retirement credits and receive larger benefits. Since my wife will likely survive me by 20-30 years this seems a reasonable plan.

I do have lots of friends and family members who had to claim Social Security as early as possible due to their financial circumstances so I understand why my circumstances don't apply to everyone.
