Keeping our Republic requires much more than resistance. It requires engaged good manners, and that is truly tough.

First, would you define "engaged good manners"?

Second, how does one with good manners not lose to those who are crass and brutal? [i.e. I'm of the opinion that the English in the latter part of the 18th century thought colonialists in America crass and brutal and, definitely unrefined in manners....however the colonialists won....I'm not suggesting that I would have preferred a different outcome, just using an example to illustrate my confusion of what the definition of "engaged good manners" might be.]
