Osleidys Menendez (CUB) won Gold, on her very first throw she threw all the way past the Olympic Record, 1cm short of her World Record, it was the second longest throw in the world. Steffi Nerius (GER) Silver, Mirela Manjani (GRE) Bronze.
10,000m Final
Huina Zing (CHN) Gold, Ejegayehu Dibaba (ETH) Silver, Olympic Record Holder Derartu Tulu (ETH) Bronze, Sabrina Mockenhaupt (GER) 15th, Elva Dryer (USA) 19th, Kate O'Neill (USA) 21st, Great Britian's Paula Radcliffe did not finish the race. The top two runners both ran Personal Bests along with at least two other runners. National Records were set by at least three countries: Latvia, Slovenia, Romania.
4x100m Relay Final
Jamaica won Gold. USA fouled when the pass between Marion and Lauryn broke down, by the time the pass was completed they were out of the zone.
Long Jump Final
A Russian sweep tonight (Tatyana Lebedeva, Irina Simagina, Tatyana Kotova) with Bronwyn Thompson (AUS) 4th, Marion Jones (USA) 5th, and Grace Upshaw (USA) 10th.

Basketball: Team USA continues their winning streak and move to the Gold Medal Match against Australia, a re-match of the 2000 Olympics Gold Match. USA hopes to win it's 3rd consecutive Gold tomorrow.

Shooting: Anita Allen (USA) in 22nd, Mary Beth Iagorashvili (USA) in 32nd.
Fencing: Mary Beth 12th, Anita 26th.
Swimming: Mary Beth 8th, Anita 29th.
Riding: Anita 1st, Mary Beth 4th.
Running: Mary Beth 7th, Anita 10th.
Overall: Mary Beth 15th, Anita 18th.

Cycling Mountain Bike: Cross Country: Gunn-Rita Dahle (NOR) wins Gold, despite a problem with her bike (she could no longer use the small gear). Canada's Marie-Helene Premont claimed Silver and Sabine Spitz (GER) won Bronze. USA rider Mary McConneloug was 9th. 6 riders did not finish the course and 4 riders were lapped and left the course.

Gymnastics Rhythmic: Individual All Around Qualification: Mary Sanders (USA) finished 15th overall (despite a protest over her low technical score on the Hoop yesterday), only the top 10 advanced. She was 12th in Clubs and 16th in Ribbon.

Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Racing: K1-500m: Natasa Janics (HUN) won her first Gold medal today.

Taekwondo: Under 57kg: Nia Abdallah (USA) wins her first contest 16-9, second contest 3-2 and her third contest 7-7. She was defeated in the Gold Medal Match by Ji Won Jang of Korea 1-2. Nia took Silver and Iridia Salazar Blanco of Mexico took Bronze.

Synchronised Swimming: Team Event Free Routine: Russia wins Gold, Japan Silver, USA Bronze, Spain 4th, Canada 5th.


Volleyball: Brazil crushed the USA. Brazil will go to the Gold Medal Match, while the USA will play for Bronze.

50k Walk Final
Curt Clausen (USA) 32nd, Phillip Dunn (USA) 35th.
Pole Vault Final
Tim Mack (USA)-Gold (Olympic Record), Toby "Crash" Stevenson (USA)-Silver, Giuseppe Gibilisco (ITA) Bronze, Derrick Miles (USA) 7th.
110 Hurdles Final
Liu Xiang of China wins Gold and sets a new Olympic Record. Terrence Trammell (USA) with a tremendous lean gets the Silver.

Football: Italy won the Bronze Medal Match over Iraq, 1-0. This is the best finish ever for the Iraq Football Team in Olympic play.

75kg-Middle Weight
Andre Dirrell fell to Gennadiy Golovkin (KAZ) in his bout today, 18-23, he does not get to fight for Gold, but he does win Bronze!
81kg-Light Heavy Weight
Andre Ward claimed success in his bout over Utkirbek Haydarov (UZB) today, 17-15. Andre Ward will go on to the Gold Medal Bout where he will face Magomed Aripgadjiev of Belarus.

Water Polo: USA claimed victory over Australia today, 6-5. They will play again on Sunday against Italy, winner finishes 7th, loser 8th.

Diving: 10m Platform: Prelims: This will be the first Olympics since 1912 that USA has not won a medal in Diving. Caesar Garcia (USA) finished 23rd, Kyle Prandi (USA) 29th. Current placings going into the Semi's: Mathew Helm (AUS) 1st, Alexandre Despatie (CAN) 2nd, Tian Liang (CHN) 3rd. 14 year old Nickson Bryan (Malaysia) missed qualifying by less than 5 points.

Basketball: USA lost to Argentina 81-89. Prior to this Olympics the US won 3 Gold's without a single game lost, so far in these Olympics Team USA has lost 3 times. USA will play Lithuania for the Bronze, Italy and Argentina will play for Gold.

Wrestling: Freestyle
55kg: Stephen Abas (USA) won all three bouts today to move to the Semifinals.
66kg: Jamill Kelly (USA) moved from Pool play to the Semifinals.
84kg: Cael Sanderson (USA) won his first two bouts in Pool Play. Then won in Sudden Death Overtime to go to the Semifinals.
120kg: Kerry McCoy (USA) lost his first bout, won his second and third. He was unable to advance out of Pool Play.


Equestrian: Individual Jumping: Cian O'Connor won gold with Waterford Crystal, this was Ireland's first medal at the Athens Games. Silver to Brazilian Rodrigo Pessoa, American Chris Kappler landed the Bronze.
