Sweeden defeats Russia, Finland triumphs over Germany, Team USA squashes Switzerland 6-0, Canada put the hurt on Italy crushing them 16-0.

Freestyle Skiing: Moguls:
Jennifer Heil (CAN) takes the Gold, Kari Traa (NOR) claims Silver and Sandra Laoura (FRA) wins Bronze. Sara Kjellin (SWE) who finished 4th and Aiko Uemura (JPN) who was 5th both turned in great performances as well. Shannon Bahrke (Sparky Bahrke) from Tahoe City, California finished 10th, Jillian Vogtli (USA) was right behind her. Michelle Roark (USA) finished 18th. Hannah Kearney (USA) failed to advance to the medal round.

Biathlon: 20km Individual:
Michael Greis (GER) takes Gold, Christian De Lorenzi (ITA) in 7th, Jay Hakkinen (USA) in 10th, Lowell Bailey (USA) in 27th, Jeremy Teela (USA) 51st and Tim Burke (USA) 58th.

Nordic Combined:
Georg Hettich (GER) wins Gold, Felix Gottwald (AUT) took the Silver. Magnus Moam (NOR) snatched the Bronze and Petter Tande (NOR) was 4th in a photo finish. Todd Lodwick (USA) finishes 8th, despite not feeling very well; Bill Demong (USA) was 15th, Johnny Spillane (USA) was 30th, Brett Camerota (USA) was 38th

Speed Skating: 5000m:
Chad Hedrick from the USA (who just started speed skating three years ago and had an emotional morning as he honored the 13th anniversary of his grandmother's death from brain cancer) has claimed, with the biggest smile ever, the US's first medal and it's Gold folks! Sven Kramer (NED) took Silver and Enrico Fabris (ITA) who took Bronze has won Italy's first speed skating medal. Shani Davis (USA) of Chicago was 7th and KC Boutiette (USA) was 19th.

Luge: Singles:
First run-Tony Benshoof (USA) in 4th, Jonathan Myles (USA) 18th, Christian Niccum (USA) 29th. Georg Hackl (GER) a 5 time Olympian who builds and maintains his own sleds finished 3rd. Venezuela's sole athlete, Werner Hoeger, was 36th.

Ski Jumping: Normal Hill:
Alan Alborn and Clint Jones (USA) qualified for the next round to try and win a medal. Simon Ammann (SUI) the Harry Potter of the 2002 games squeezed in in 33rd place to move on after crashing in practice. Tommy Schwall and Jim Denney (USA) do not move on.

Figure Skating: Short Program:
After the short program the standings are Totmianina/Marinin (RUS) 1st, Zhang/Zhang (CHN) 2nd, Petrova/Tikhonov (RUS) 3rd, Pang/Tong (CHN) 4th, Shen/Zhao (CHN) 5th, Inoue/Baldwin (USA) 6th, Hinzmann/Parchem (USA) 13th. Inoue/Baldwin performed the first throw triple axel in Olympics competition and landed it solidly.
