Vouchers are an odd halfway point. The State hates them because of the loss of control. Statists hate anyone escaping the all-encompassing brainwashing (or 'socializing'). Libertarians dislike them because they still require taxes to be confiscated first. The irreligious hate the idea of their money being spent on parochial schools, and the religious fear the money going to the 'wrong' religions. The only clear winners are the students and parents, which you'd think was enough to pass.

Again, private property, liberty, and personal responsibility are the answer. End the compulsory incarceration of our children away from their parents, end the public funding of education, end minimum wage laws and age discrimination (child labor) laws. Each of these is a crime by the State against our liberties, especially our children's.
