They say that every cloud has a silver lining. With industrialization air pollution in China is becoming a deadly health hazard reminiscent of the infamous London fog. The solution is to shut down the sources of the pollutants or move them elsewhere. The conditions are so bad that the PRC government is forced to act. With a fast growing middle class automobiles in Chinese cities are multiplying like rabbits. ICE cars emit a lot of pollutants while pure EVs have zero tailpipe emissions -- the pollution happens on far away electricity generating plants.

This situation is a golden opportunity for Kandi, the right car at the right time at the right price. While in America cars are seen primarily as "private transportation" in China the pure EVs are being considered "public transportation" with plans to lease and to rent the cars instead of selling them piecemeal to individual owners. By creating these state backed programs the adoption of the pure EV is accelerated.

That does not mean that adoption will be instantaneous because a whole new infrastructure must be put in place: service stations for electric cars. Also, to allow EVs to drive from city to city China must adopt nationwide standards. The province by province approach used earlier must be modified. While bureaucracy is often slow and dull, coffins focus the mind and harden resolve.

Kandi is in the enviable position of being the only car company with a product ready for deployment. Waiting for other car makers to tool up would introduce unacceptable delays. I don't recall ever seeing an opportunity like this one in all my investing years.

Severe Beijing smog prompts openness from government
By GILLIAN WONG and CHRISTOPHER BODEEN | Associated Press – 2 hrs 1 min ago

BEIJING (AP) — One of Beijing's worst rounds of air pollution kept schoolchildren indoors and sent coughing residents to hospitals Monday, but this time something was different about the murky haze: the government's transparency in talking about it.

While welcomed by residents and environmentalists, Beijing's new openness about smog also put more pressure on the government to address underlying causes, including a lag in efforts to expand Western-style emissions limits to all of the vehicles in Beijing's notoriously thick traffic.
