The Brookings Institution has an interesting study on years of SS benefits collected vs. the beneficiaries income decile. See page 98 of the .pdf file at this link:

http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/Research/Files/Reports/2016...

The wealthiest decile collected SS for 3 more years vs. a beneficiary at the median income. Might make delaying SS to age 70 a more attractive bet for the wealthy.

Along with clipping grocery coupons out of the newspaper?

To someone who is wealthy, optimizing their SS benefit has essentially no marginal value. It's de minimis (so minor as to merit disregard).

I've watched too many people retire and die in their 60s. Delaying retirement is a terrible idea, unless of course you still want to work - nothing wrong with that either.
