Interesting twitter comments by somebody experienced in defeating white supremacist David Duke... implications for Trump 2020
https://twitter.com/timjacobwise/status/1152930670093787141?...

Any of us who were involved in the fight against David Duke in LA in 90/91 know what this is and how it must be fought... mainstream Democratic consultants warned us against focusing too much on Duke's bigotry, ties to extremists and appeals to white racial resentment. They said that "played into Duke's hands" and allowed him to set the agenda... but doing that normalized Duke as a regular candidate... it also depressed turnout among people who almost certainly disliked him but didn't think he could win or would be all that big a deal if he did...

In the Governor's race we dispensed w/ all that BS... We talked about Duke's ongoing Nazism and the moral/practical evil of his racist appeals. We discussed how that moral evil would have real world consequences... did this flip any of Duke's 1990 voters? Nah, not really. But we knew that would be almost impossible... Our goal was not to flip them, but to DRIVE UP TURNOUT among the good folks... And that is what happened... drove turnout through the roof...

He explains the strategy in much more detail at the link.

If he is right, then Nancy Pelosi's strategy of "he’s just not worth it" ignoring Trumpism and avoiding impeachment proceedings seems wrong. As does, Michelle Obama's strategy of "when they go low, we go high"...

Instead, call out the danger and make people very, very afraid of Trump. Afraid enough to vote, even (how lazy Americans have become!)

Dems need to learn use fear as effectively as Johnson did against Goldwater... accept that the lazy end of the swing voter population is not that intelligent, they’d rather watch a mud-wrestling reality show. Don’t wonk them into flipping the channel, Dems. Scare the heck out of them.

I’m not sure Gentle Joe is the guy who can do it. Wonky Liz neither. Perhaps Kamala the ex-prosecutor.
