Kurt Volker, who was Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, assured Congress that there was no quid pro quo in president Trump's overtures to Ukraine. Republicans called him their star witness. Representative Jim Jordan gleefully announced that Volker "confirmed what the President has repeatedly said: there was no quid pro quo".So, did Volker lie to Congress when he said, "At no time was I aware of or took part in an effort to urge Ukraine to investigate former vice president Biden," and offered his extensive text messages of real-time dialogue as evidence?A recording obtained by CNN shows Giuliani indeed making those connections in a call featuring Volker himself.“All we need from the [Ukraine] President [Volodymyr Zelensky],” Giuliani says on the call, “is to say, I’m going to put an honest prosecutor in charge, he’s gonna investigate and dig up the evidence that presently exists, and is there any other evidence about involvement of the 2016 election, and then the Biden thing has to be run out.”Volker in his deposition presented the Giuliani-Yermak call as “just an introductory phone call so they could talk to each other.”The new audio shows this was not true. The 40-minute call dealt with plenty of the substantive subjects that would later come up in the impeachment trial. So many crimes, so few convictions.https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/06/11/new-quest...
