Last month DH went to the dump, eager as always to see what he could discover that was worth taking home. He saw some 2x4x8s and started loading them into his pickup truck. The 'dumpster nazi' came over and told him that people could no longer dumpster dive. He did manage to come away with a few of the 2x4s he had already loaded. We were crestfallen about not being allowed to 'recyle'.

DH was back at the dumpster this weekend (to dispose of our household trash), his buddy--'dumpster worker-friend' who normally oversees the dumpster was back on duty. DH struck up a conversation (asked him how he was doing, said he missed seeing him, etc. DH is always nice to people regardless of what they do for a living). Found out the guys father died so he had been away from his dumpster job. The replacement (dumpster nazi) had been fired for something nefarius that he had done and would no longer be standing guard. Woo Hoo.

DH didn't see anything worth diving for that trip but at least our options remain open into the future!
