Do they get out faster than if nobody is praying for them?

According to the linked article, yes:

"However, our prayers for these souls can help alleviate their sufferings and help them reach heaven more quickly."

Presumably, more quickly than if nobody is praying for them.

What happens if nobody is praying for them? I'm thinking of the scene in the movie Coco where the dead guy starts to fade away because no one living remembers him...sounds facetious, but is it? I expect the Land of the Dead belief is a combination of purgatory and some other, ancient traditional belief.
