Do UTMA accounts lower your taxable income? Why do a UTMA in addition to/as opposed to a 529? When you say stocks do you mean mutual funds made up of stocks, individual stocks, or both.

Thanks very, very much for your advice. Indeed, we are extremely grateful to be in this position and for this to be what we're "worried" about.

I love my job and can't imagine quitting it, unless indeed I was literally breaking even on it or close to that, which I don't think I am. The benefits package is very generous, compared to what they offered at my husband's practice. Also, I do live in Florida (no income taxes here.)
